Cuba Expedition

1845...

The Ghost Orchid...Dendrophylax lindenii

Pepeluali 1845
Tracked Jean Jules Linden, a key player in the orchidaceae expedition, to Cuba.
Discovered a most extraordinary specimen--The Ghost Orchid--in the forests of Sague & Nimanima.
The rhyzomes are under my protection.
Will continue to investigate connections.
Your most faithful servant, L.
Invited to the Rabaina Tobacco Plantation

Detail of the orchid roots and crackled paint effect

Jean Jules Linden (Belgium), Nicolas Funck and Auguste Ghiesbreght went to Cuba in search of
the rarest orchids for their benefactors.  Who are these so-called benefactors?
Why are the forests being stripped and decimated to obtain these precious specimens?
The investigation brings L closer to understanding the greed & obsession of these collectors.
L consults the curanderos (naturalist healers)
and shared information on the healing potential of The Ghost Orchid
for the welfare of the many rather than the chosen few.

the expedition continues...

  4. It's an orchid? It could also be one of those marvelous deep-sea creatures! Very fragile and beautiful! ♥

  5. I am in awe of your ability. Such a beautiful flower and such a shame that people put such a high monetary price on it.
